Dual-Diagnosis Treatment

We offer dual-diagnosis care to treat both the addiction and any co-occurring disorders like depression, anxiety, PTSD, and more.

TACKLE MENTAL HEALTH & ADDICTION WITH DUAL-DIAGNOSIS TREATMENT

At All Points North, we want to help you move from surviving into thriving. Treatment is more successful when you address healing beyond the symptoms and dig into the root causes. More often than you might imagine, drug or alcohol addiction can mask mental illness, or vice versa. Without getting to the root issue, treatment acts as a patch for the real underlying conditions. We’ve seen it happen time after time – maybe you’ve gone through a similar experience: clients seek support for addiction, but not the underlying mental disorder. After treatment, they fall back into a lifestyle of addiction and eventually relapse.

Luckily, there is an alternative path: when you work to address co-occurring disorders, you’re more likely to find long-lasting recovery.

What Is Dual-Diagnosis Treatment?

Many people who struggle with substance misuse also experience a co-occurring mental health disorder. Leaving a mental health condition untreated can lead to worse treatment outcomes and a higher risk of relapse.

Dual-diagnosis treatment addresses addiction and mental health simultaneously without prioritising one condition over the other.

WHAT ARE CO-OCCURRING DISORDERS?

It’s estimated that as many as half of those with substance addictions also suffer from mental health disorders. Typically, dual-diagnosis clients may struggle to maintain sobriety. Intimacy can be difficult, and it’s common to experience erratic mood swings, violent tendencies, or uncontrolled anger. If you struggle with an undiagnosed co-occurring disorder, you may find it hard to formulate and convey your thoughts and might feel socially inept or develop solitary tendencies as a result. It might be hard to maintain employment and you may have issues managing your finances or controlling your spending.

Some of the most common co-occurring disorders found coupled with addiction are:

  • Generalised anxiety
  • Eating disorders (not treated by APN)
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
  • Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)
  • Borderline personality disorder (BPD)
  • Schizophrenia
  • Attention deficit hyperactive disorder (ADHD)

When we identify the co-occurring disorders as the root cause, we’re able to develop a more strategic approach to healing. Dual diagnosis not only helps you understand yourself better, but it also helps you understand the contributing factors that led to your addiction.

UNLOCK REAL HEALING

If you’ve tried to cope with a mental disorder by seeking “relief” in the form of drugs or alcohol, you may have unknowingly entered a vicious cycle that can quickly spiral out of control. Our client, Ashley, came to APN Lodge in Colorado, USA after years of childhood trauma that led to excessive drinking. By addressing trauma and alcohol addiction, Ashley was able to open herself up to the possibility of transformation and embrace her full potential to find her authentic self in the process.
