Desire in Long-Term Relationships: An Impossibility?

with James Earl

Current research has challenged many of the ways psychosexual therapy traditionally approached the problem of desire. In this talk, James Earl will take a new approach to issues with desire and provide insight into how relationship therapy can help.

Together, you’ll explore various questions, for example:

  • Why does desire so often go missing in long-term relationships?
  • Why don’t ‘date nights’ work?
  • Do we need more – or less – intimacy?
  • Is touch helpful – or not?
  • Are we trying to bring couples closer? … Or create space?
  • Why is sensate focus (the traditional ‘mindfulness’ approach to sex therapy from Master and Johnson) not working for so many modern couples?
  • What’s wrong with language like ‘foreplay’ and ‘making love’?
  • Is fantasy helpful? What about porn?

Join James for a roundtable talk to ask questions and unearth cutting-edge thinking about how we approach relationship therapy.
